FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The Allen County Library Board of Trustees voted to move forward with a library transformation project, Thursday.

The board voted to authorize bonds for $98.5 million, after holding two public hearings and getting input from its financial advisors, the library said. The monthly impact for Allen County homeowners would be $1.90 a month, or $22.76 a year. Commercial property owners with property assessed at $100,000 would pay an additional $3.35 a month or $40.00 a year.

The ACPL has 14 branches and wants to build another library in Huntertown. The plan has an additional 54,000 square feet added to other branches. The project is expected to take seven to eight years and will have three phases.

The board changed plans for the Shawnee Branch after a public outcry for the branch to remain open was heard.
